JOEL WOOD

Joel is a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Athletics Coach, and Masters Athlete. Growing up Joel competed in Athletics and Triathlon before choosing to focus his professional efforts on soccer. A 19-year playing career saw Joel represent clubs such as Newcastle Jets, Tuen Mun Progoal (Hong Kong), Sydney Olympic, Parramatta FC, Maitland FC, Lambton Jaffas and Edgeworth Eagles. After he retired from soccer, Joel decided to head back to the track where it all started to learn from the best in the business, Ramona Casey and Bruce Gulliver.

Joel’s coaching career started by working as a personal trainer and soccer coach before deciding to head to university to complete a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of New England. While studying, Joel completed an ASCA level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach and Level 2 Athletics Australia certifications. Joel’s coaching philosophy relies on mastering the foundations of strength and movement with a keep-it-simple approach centered around progressively improving athletic qualities to maximise individual qualities and enhance robustness.

Joel currently works with Central Coast Mariners FC women’s youth teams, Sydney Kings basketball and Valentine FC. Joel has a wealth of experience working with youth athletes in various sports at Central Coast Sports College, Newington College and Hunter Valley Grammar. Joel has also completed 2 internships in the US at University of West Georgia and Northern Kentucky University.

When not coaching, Joel loves to travel and spend his time outdoors, camping, surfing, swimming, and experiencing all of the beauty Australia and the rest of the world as to offer.

Ramona casey

Ramona is an Athletics Coach specialising in speed development. At the age of seven, she began training under professional foot racing coach Bob Gulliver. Achieving success in NSW and Australian Track championships, she later won prestigious 70m, 120m, and 400m races in Australia and Scotland.

Simultaneously, she served 15 years in criminal investigation for the NSW police, winning world titles at the World Emergency Services Games in 2007 and 2009. A car accident ended both her policing and athletic career. While recovering and raising her son, Jack, she joined the Fearnley Dawes Athletic Track coaching team, reigniting her passion. After a 12 year hiatus and with the mentorship and coaching of Bruce Gulliver (Bobs’ son) Ramona returned to competitive racing, most recently, winning the Open Stawell 400m in 2023.

Ramona’s coaching philosophy centers on discovering your why, refining technique, and creating an inclusive environment for athletes of all levels, placing significant emphasis on each athlete’s positive sense of self, prioritising mentorship and support for every athlete's goals.

Founder of Track Club, Ramona has coached 300+ athletes as young as 5 years old, including NDIS participants. She collaborates with schools like Newcastle Grammar and St Phillips - Cessnock Waratah Public School while also coordinating the Hunter Academy of Sport's Athletic Program.

When not coaching, Ramona organizes Regional athletics events and oversees operations at Fearnley Dawes Athletic Track. She is an Athletics Australia and NSW certified and accredited coach.
